Shiv Linga, Shiv Ratri, Shankar God - (Eng)

See How the Brahmins have made Mulniwasi Women to Carry out the Prayer of Penis shamelessly.

Hindus all over India accept without shame or remorse the virtue of Linga Puja—Phallus
worship. This phallus worship is associated with Shiva and it is commonly held that the true way of worshipping Shiva is to worship the Shiva Linga.

What Hindus call the lingam, ling, Shiva Linga, or Shiv ling. The lingam and yoni (representation of the female vulva or vagina) symbolize to many Hindus the inseparability of male and female principles in creation.

Shiva Linga is a wide spread Indian phallic figure. It consists of a feminine base “Yoni,” or “vagina,” and a rising masculine portion the “Phallus,” or “penis.” The Linga artifacts, dating from the first century BC to the third century AD, are shaped like realistic phalluses. Thereafter the shape becomes progressively more abstract. By medieval times, its observable portion, rising from the Yoni, forms a round block with domed apex.

Shiva, the lord of erect Phallus (urdhvalinga), is traced to the ithyphallic figure of Indus Valley civilization or to the phallic images found more generally in prehistoric India. The epics and Puranas tell how a great fire appeared from the cosmic waters, and from this flame Linga Shiva emerged to claim supremacy and worship over Brahma and Vishnu, when he was castrated because he seduced sages’ wives in the pine forests of Himalayas. He castrated himself because no one could castrate the Supreme Lord. The fallen phallus of the Supreme Lord destroyed all the worlds until it reached the Yoni of Uma/Parvati and cooled down. All procreation of worlds started after the worship of Yoni-Linga was restored and all Gods, including Vishnu and Brahma accepted supremacy of Lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva’s other form is ‘Ardhanariswara’, half man and half woman. Lord Shiva, with his consort Parvati, is always in a celestial dance of procreation and destruction of the worlds. He is not only the embodiment of ‘Kama’ (the sexual lust, desire or pleasure, the force that is the basis for the evolution of diverse life forms and Humans on earth) in the forms of Phallus and androgynous Ardhanarishwara, but also the destroyer of ‘Kama’ when he destroyed ‘Kamadeva’ only to restore his life at the request of Kama’s wife Rati, ‘the coitus or the sexual intercourse.’ Without the sexual desire (Kama) there is no sexual intercourse (Rati) and no procreation. Lord Shiva’s manifestations are memorialized in the local texts of great shrines ranging from temple complexes of Khajuraho in the north to Madhurai in the south.

Vamana Purana

When naked Lord Shiva was wandering in the Daruvanam forest, the wives of sages lost self control for Lord Shiva was the most beautiful and attractive man and they at once were seduced by the Lord.  The sages who failed to recognize the Lord thought he was an ordinary immortal and cursed him: May the Lingam (penis) of this man fall to the ground! That instant the Lingam of Shiva fell to the ground, and the God immediately disappeared. The Lingam, as it fell, penetrated through the earth to the lower worlds and increased in height until it towered above the heavens.  The earth quaked, all things movable and immovable agitated.  Brahma and Vishnu then decided to find the ends of the great Lingam, while Vishnu mounted on Garuda descended down and Brahma on his lotus ascended the heavens. They returned to where they started unable to find the ends of the great Lingam, and with great reverence and praise they requested Lord Shiva to resume his Lingam. Lord Shiva thus propitiated appeared and said: If gods and men will worship, I will resume it. To this proposal Brahma and Vishnu and all other Gods agreed and since then the Lingam is worshipped by all.

Shiva Purana

On falling in consequence of the sages’ curse, the Lingam became like fire, and caused a conflagration wherever it penetrated; the three worlds were distressed, and as neither Gods nor sages could find rest, they hastened for protection to Brahma.  Having heard them relate all that happened, Brahma replied, “After having committed knowingly a reprehensible act, why say that it was done unknowingly? Every one shall reap the fruit of his good or bad actions, and the Lingam therefore shall not cease to distress the worlds until the God resumes it. Propitiate by adoration the mountain-born Goddess, and she will assume the form of Yoni (vagina) and receive the Lingam, by which means only it can be rendered innocuous.  After obtaining the consent of Parvati, form a vessel of eight kinds of leaves, place in it boiled rice and sacred plants, having it filled with holy water, consecrate with proper prayers and invocations, and with water repeating at the same time suitable prayers, sprinkle the Lingam.  After Parvati receives the Lingam in her Yoni, you erect and consecrate the form of Lingam in the Yoni. By worshipping it with offerings of flowers, perfumes and such things, by kindling lamps before it, and by singing music propitiate Maheswara and he will forgive you.” As per Brahma’s instructions, the Gods and sages sought the assistance of Parvati. Parvati received in her Yoni the Lingam and appeased its consuming fire.  In commemoration of this event the worship of Lingam was instituted.

Lainga Purana

Brahma said to angels, “When I sprang into existence, I beheld the mighty Narayana reposing on the abyss of waters, and, being under the influence of delusion, awakened him with my hand and addressed him: ‘who art thou that thus slumberest on this terrible ocean?’ Hari awoke dispelling sleep from his lotus eyes, looked upon me and then arising said, ‘Welcome, welcome O Pitamaha, my dear son!’ On hearing the first of the Gods speak, I confined within the bonds of the quality of impurity, replied: why dost thou say, my dear son? For know me to be eternal god, the universal spirit, the creator, the preserver and the destroyer of the three worlds.’  He immediately answered, “Hear the truth, Oh four faced! And learn that it is I who am the creator, the preserver, and the destroyer, how canst thou forget Narayana the self-existent and eternal Being?’ hence arose terrible combat amidst the waters of the deluge, where to appease the contest and recall us to our senses, appeared a Lingam blazing like a thousand suns. Bewildered by its radiant beams, Hari thus said to me lost in amazement, ‘I will proceed downwards in order to ascertain the termination of this wondrous column of fire, do thou, O lord, proceed upwards and seek for its top.’ Having thus spoken he assumed the form of a boar, and I that of a swan, and we both proceeded in our search for four thousand years, but being unable to ascertain its termination, we then returned back wearied and disappointed. Thus still under influence of delusion, we prostrated ourselves before the Lingam, and were reflecting on what it could be. Then we heard a voice saying Om, Om, Om- and shortly after appeared Shiva in the midst of that column of fire. In commemoration of this event therefore was the worship of Lingam instituted.”
Scanda Purana and Visva-Sara-Prakasha

One day naked Mahadeva with a club in his hand chanced to pass by near a place where several sages were performing their devotions. Mahadeva laughed at them, insulted and provoked them with gestures and signs.  The sages cursed him and his Lingam or Phallus fell to the ground.  Mahadeva in this state of mutilation traveled over the world bewailing his misfortune and his consort Parvati ran after him singing mournful songs. (In Greek mythology this is called wanderings of Demeter and lamentations of Bacchus) The world thus stopped procreation and came to a standstill.  Gods and men searched for the sacred Lingam and found it grown to an immense size.  They cut it with hatchets into thirty-one pieces that became perfect Lingams. The Gods left twenty-one on earth and took nine to heaven and removed one to netherworld.

  1. Thank you so much for the post, it was really helpfull.
Just one thing... I was just wandering why you say "shamelessly" ... It kind of gave me a weird feeling. I think it is clear why the YoniLingam is worshiped, no? Cosmic Union , male&female , like Ying&Yang ( Tao ), that is the base of Creation itself ... What does shame have anything to do with that?

  2. Hi friends here, u have some. kind of mistake...the actually Ling means a identity like pu-Ling for male and stri-Ling for female..just like that shiv Ling is only for shiva....And FYI..the shiv Ling is used for only concentration purpose from ancient times it can be seen in harrapa also...the early people's concentrate on flame that is DiYa.. but due drag of air the flame become unstable...so that's why people made shiv Ling which is analogues to flame of DiYa bu stable...as per dravidian theology the shiva is a energy point and only one supreme...so, the flame is identical to shiva concept...

  4. i dont know why people dont understand that its not linga its lingam... shame on all the people who are spreading this type of nonsense about the god and religion. Its not the linga .. or so called god's ling.

In Sanskrit, Linga means a 'mark' or a symbol, which points to an inference. Thus the Shiva Linga is a symbol of Lord Shiva - a mark that reminds of the Omnipotent Lord, which is formless. if you don't understand it, then google about real meaning of lingam online.... you all fools. or read all info about mahadev at: www.mahadev.asia

  6. Hey friends, this man is ignorant about the truth regarding the topic and is presenting that false information which is the result of misinterpretation of the shivling by the british and christian interpretors, who were strict opposers of our culture and worship and aimed at wiping out all the other religions, considering them as satanic. They have clearly tried to present the image of our culture and worship as vulgar. This person has collected data from various sources which intended the same, to criticise our religion. He is giving here names and references to our own mythological literature, but clearly he does not know anything properly about them. He is clearly a blind opposer of hinduism, and is carrying on his agenda to make people believe that our religion is a sin. If you want to know the truth regarding the subject, please refer more genuine sites, basically which are not agenda driven and are neutral. The shiling is a symbol of lord shiva as a whole and not as particuler part of his body, he is a god and he does not have a mortal body like we have. 'Linga' in sanskrit has not one but various meanings, one of them is symbol, or representation. Our universe consists basically of two things - matter and energy. Shiva represents matter and his consort, shakti represents energy. The idol of shivling and yoni is representation of the cosmos and its creation. If you believe in truth, or want to believe in truth, the truth is that god is one and no religion teaches anything but to live with each other in peace and respect each other, and that is the same which this religion also teaches. What i said in the last line is the truth which this person is ignorant about. Its upto you wether you want to be ignorant like this person and criticise each other and fight with each other, spreading hate, or accept each other as brothers and sisters and be loved by the god, who is one but has various names.
